The feature described here was removed in v5.8.0 as incremental changes in Tinderbox means that it was tending to apply an unwanted prototype rather than speed the application of a wanted one!
If using in-place editing, creating a new note initially sets its prototype to 'none'.
If not using in-place editing, creating a new note initially sets its prototype to the default prototype – the prototype most recently used.
Regardless of default settings, when editing outlines, you can easily set the prototype for any note by right-clicking the outline icon or the map icon prototype tab.
